Hot Dogging with Beans

Dinner on the cheap,
Wieners, pinto, kidney beans,
Add barbecue sauce.

Nothing fancy here,
Just basic down home cooking,
In a crockpot too.

Sometimes life is good,
When you don’t overthink food,
Just feel gratitude.

Death

Inevitable,
The Reaper comes to say, Yo,
It’s time to go.

Irreversible,
Here one day, the next the last,
The presence now passed.

Unconditional,
No do-overs or returns,
This means permanence.

The Spell of Halloween

Tonight’s specialty,
Guarded by Jack O. Lantern;
Stop by the  doorstep.

Pinched, red-rimmed eyeballs,
Gazing, rolling, spell-binding,
There for the picking.

Pluck one and pop it,
Genuine Halloween treat,
Feel the squishy lens.

A Falls Trilogy

Falls Testimony
Never ending gush—
I love this Seattle site,
So open and green.

A Falls Witness
Through no fault of mine,
Proud to be a falls witness,
Understand my awe.

 Falls Memory
I remember now,
As a Snoqualmie* native,
I’m a waterfall.

*Taken in Snoqualmie, WA, while I visited Seattle last week.

Relishing count down.

Awakened

Celebrate yourself,
Accept your significance,
For you are worthy.

Regardless of fate,
You make your own happiness;
It comes from within.

A purposeful life
Is to always be present.
Find joy in small things.

Still Charming after All these Years

Opening Spring Fling in Florida – Part 3 of 3

South of Jacksonville,
Northeast coast of Florida
Sits St. Augustine.

Colonized by Spain,
Oldest city in U.S.,
Briefly British ruled.

Flagler spurred its growth,
Menendez spread religion;
Their legacy shows.

If you missed:

Part 2

Football Food

Superbowl is here,
Good excuse to overeat,
Hard not to indulge.

Some menu delights:
Buffalo wings, on’yun rings,
All kinds of chip dips.

The choices go on:
Local or imported beers.
Antacids later.

Bánh Mi Wannabe

Planned to make bánh mi,
But too many substitutes
No bánh mi for me.

Just a stacked sandwich,
So ban me for no bánh mi,
Though not a bad sub.

I had no baguette,
I used pain de campagne,
A pseudo-bánh mi.

My bánh mi wannabe ingredients for this classic Vietnamese sandwich:

  1. Sautéed Swiss chard, onions, and fresh basil sprinkled with tamari sauce
  2. Thinly sliced cucumbers
  3. Fresh mint
  4. Sweet pickle relish
  5. Leftover roasted chicken
  6. Mayo mixed with sriracha sauce spread on two slices of pain de campagne (aka “French sourdough”)

Close to Closing

Solve a problem now?
Late afternoon humdinger
Just before closing.

5 ‘til 5 P.M.,
Weekend about to begin;
Leave it for Monday.

Why am I still here?
Should have left right after lunch;
I woke up too late.
