Four stages, wrought to have you wring, wrangle, and wrestle
With ropes, chains, rings, 2-inch ledges, and cliff hangers.
The roar of the crowd cheers you on as you grab a vessel,
Trying to balance so you don’t fall into the dreaded cold pool water.
The audience shouts your name, encouraging, cheering for you.
Sweat coats your skin as you focus from one obstacle to another.
The smell of fear is in the air as you near stage four.
O, how you must taste the closeness to victory.
You’re pure action, always in motion, gets you to do one step more.

Too many snapshots of what’s not hot—

ISIS’s nonstop hiss,                                                                                            “ . . . decapitate . . .”
Greece’s austerity diss,                                                                                      “ . . . insulate . . .”
China’s manufacturing slump,                                                                        “ . . . tumult . . .”
U.S. prez hopefuls vs. vitriolic Donald Trump,                                            “. . .insult . . .”
Random shootings everywhere are on the rise,                                           “. . .turmoil . . .”
Race relations all over continue to destabilize,                                            “. . .embroil . . .”
West African methamphetamines trade on an upward trend,                  “ . . .kilo . . . “
Mexico’s increasing drug cartels discourage the nation’s mend . . .        “. . . El Chapo . . .”

A reflection of our collective selves, a picture of an extreme deep end.

Bruce made quite the news
‘Cuz he’s the Jenner gone transgender,
Nothing to do with glamour or glory.
He told the truth on TV.

He’s already in his mid-sixties,
Served time under his self-imposed penalties.

But his message is not just about him,
It’s to shine light on a subject so dim
That so many have suffered much abuse–
Perhaps Bruce’s message will help spread the news:

That you can be yourself without fear or shame,
For underneath we are all the same.
