Paris 11/13/15
They stole in, black clad with hearts equally dark.
From different corners of the City of Love—transformed into another level
Of Dante’s vision of hell.
Mute soldiers of hate articulated by AK47s
Brainwashed with false promises of Eden
If they do what ISIS has bidden.
Man, woman, child,
Humanity dressed in full sorrow
Too painful to face tomorrow.
Friday night’s fallout
Will always be remembered as the day
The light went out.

“Mama!”
Mouth wide open,
Teeth razor-sharp,
Tongue forked like a snake
No one claims this child.
“Mama!”
Insistent cries from hell to heaven,
Drowned by the sound of the harp.
The child’s fingers shaped like a rake,
His face pitted and wild.
“Mama!”
No welcome for the heathen,
Ignored as if hidden under a tarp.
He crawls back to Devil’s Lake,
Where he was originally defiled.

Ode to Pizza
You take-a piz-za my heart,
You fill me like no other.
Get thee to my plate;
Your aroma makes me swoon!
I am ready to cut you apart;
I cannot share you with another
Even if I inflate
As big as a hot air balloon!
What makes you so hot?
Sweet onions galore,
Dough kneaded just right,
Sausage and three kinds of cheeses!

Thingvellir National Park*
Magma turned basalt
Forming gorges for haunting
By the White Walkers
*Thingvellir National Park is northeast of Reykjavik and is where the Mid-Atlantic ridge surfaces on land for all to see, splitting North America and Eurasia. White Walkers are from the series, Game of Thrones, which used this park as the setting for some episodes.
